Where the data comes from

Specs, pricing models and free-tier details come from each vendor’s official documentation and pricing pages, combined with hands-on knowledge of the developer-hosting space. Comparison fields are normalised so platforms can be read against one another rather than described in isolation.

How we compare

Every platform is scored on the same columns — category, pricing model, free tier, managed database, regions, self-hostability, Docker support, git deploy and open-source status. The comparison table lets you sort and filter on any of them and share the resulting view via its URL. Where a boolean needs a caveat (for example a free tier that is closed to new signups), we flag it rather than let a plain “Yes/No” mislead.

How alternatives are ranked

On an alternatives page we lead with options in the same category — and the same kind, so a host’s alternatives are other hosts and a database’s are other databases — then show the rest. Ordering is by relevance, never by whether a vendor pays us.

Freshness

Each detail page and the comparison table carry a visible “last verified” date, and substantive updates are logged in the changelog. We re-check periodically; a value that moves more than roughly 20% from its previous figure is held for manual review before it publishes, so a bad automated read can’t silently post a wrong number. Even so, pricing and free tiers change fast — always confirm on the vendor’s own site before you commit.

How we make money & stay independent

Some outbound links may be affiliate links (full disclosure). They fund the site, but they do not decide which platforms we include or how we order them — many platforms we recommend pay us nothing, and we cover them identically.
